  1. Hi Everyone
I think that using the internet with students is a valid tool but it is important that we teach them to be safe.
I had a great conversation with Ken a few weeks ago (I hope he doesn't mind me saying...). He was talking about internet safety at home. He said that it is important to have internet use open and for our children to be used to their parents etc sitting next to them as they do things on the internet.
I think that is a great idea. Our computer is in a shared space at home so that will make it easier for my husband and I to do that. I know my children are still young but my almost two year old was trying to get me to turn the 'puter' on this morning so he could see 'Ogre Mummy, ogre.' He likes Shrek.
I know this is slightly off topic, but something we can think about for our homes and perhaps advice to give to supervisors etc.

  2. Mobile phones represent a good example of your point about taking risks. Almost all the comment coming out of schools is about the dangers and perils of cell phones and certainly the YouTube clips of "Angry Teacher" taken on video capable mobile phones do show what teachers face. However, I have written and blogged about some of the advantages of using cell phones which have more computing power than a computer did in 1969, and we can also expect that all our students will have a phone
